best, you've got to be the best you've got to change the world and use this chance to be heard It wasn't too late in the afternoon when Desmond finally pushed himself out of bed. He had been awake for hours, and the proof had been lazily tossed onto his dresser. A small, well read book, with a slip of paper sticking out near the end marking his place. It was probably one of his favorites, seeing as this was his tenth or eleventh time reading it; he couldn't remember which. Stepping forward a bit on the carpet of his room, he extended his arms above his head, stretching while letting out a yawn. Once he was done waking his muscles from their stiff state, he shuffled out of his room. His eyes located the clock on the wall close to the kitchen, confirming his earlier assumption; it was still the afternoon, but not late enough to call it evening yet. His sister probably wouldn't be home until later, and therefore he continued into the kitchen and attempted to find something he could eat.
Luckily it was his day off today, though he normally worked the closing shift at the bookstore in town. He could ignore the wild pull at night long enough to make it home, and even then, some nights he decided not to even change. It was also what he considered to be a day off from clan meetings, which was why he wasn't out of bed before noon. As Desmond placed the loaf of bread on the counter and grabbed a few slices, he went over things in his mind. He tried to recall what he was supposed to be doing today as he began to make himself a sandwich. Normally his clan mates didn't let him stay in this late unless he had something else to do. It clicked as he sunk his teeth into his delicious sandwich; his cousins were arriving today. The Moonfire clan had been called for help, and the estimated arrival was some time today.
Desmond then also remembered that his cousin Leah wanted to meet separately, just to catch up. At least, that's what he assumed; he didn't really remember why he was meeting her on their own. Letting out a quiet sigh, he leaned his tall frame against the counter, and continued to eat. Once Moonfire arrived, he couldn't live in denial about being Alpha. It was up to him to make sure that their sister clan behaved properly, though with his uncle leading the clan, Desmond figured it wouldn't be much of an issue. There was still the matter of telling them about the other two wolf clans. Another sigh left his lips as he stood up straight and turned to brush the bread crumbs off his hands and into the sink. He raised a hand to rub the side of his neck as he left the kitchen to head down a hallway. His fingers ran over the big bandage that nearly took over his neck. Rolling his eyes, he remembered how his sister insisted he keep it on despite how fast it would probably heal. Desmond hadn't objected too much though, he couldn't blame her for being paranoid about his safety anymore.
Not after what happened; it was as if their life was to be thought twice about now. Their safety was becoming a big issue, and fast. His hand dropped from the side of his neck to grip a door handle, opening the door just a crack. Peeking his head in, just far enough so he could see the rise and fall of his father's chest. It was good enough to settle his nerves for his trip out. “Hey dad, I'm going to go see Leah.” He mumbled quietly, knowing he wouldn't hear him anyway. Carefully, he shut the door again. A habit; being cautious as to not wake his father. Desmond headed back out the hallway, and towards the front door this time. His hat and coat were thrown over a stool near the door, and he scooped up his hat and pulled it onto his head. It was one of those fur lined ones with ear flaps – not real fur though, he was sure of this. Desmond didn't care if people though the hats were stupid, he liked them, and they kept his ears warm! Next, he shrugged on his coat, which was a bit thin for the weather, and then stepped into his boots.
Leaving the house, he was sure to lock the door behind him before dropping his keys back into his pocket. He then began his journey on foot to the Asguard Ruins, shivering when the wind reached him from in between the trees. It wouldn't take him long to get used to the chilly air, but it still sucked. If the ruins had been a bit farther from his house, Desmond would have drove. However it wasn't that far of a walk, and he did enjoy the outdoors. Though before he knew it, he was stepping over crumbled rock. Apparently his thoughts had kept him too distracted from the walk he normally enjoyed. He sat down on a smooth topped rock, his hands shoved into his jacket pockets. He hoped that Leah wouldn't take too long, despite the fact that he was already adjusting to the cold. don’t let yourself down don’t let yourself go your last chance has arrived

Leah had spent the entire night tossing and turning, not yet used to the foreign feeling of her new bed or the four walls surrounding her. It was the same bed set that she had had in Paris, but there was just something about no longer sleeping in it in Paris that made it difficult for her to let sleep claim her. Obviously, she had not slept well and that wasn’t usually a good thing for anyone unfortunate enough to cross her path if she was too overtired. Most of the time, she didn’t let her temper show but sometimes she just couldn’t help it. Luckily, every night she’d spent in Romania so far hadn’t been like that so she figured she would be alright. She was, after all, in Romania to help her uncle’s pack after they had been attacked and she was willing to give up anything – even the perfect life she’d spent in Paris for the last fifteen years – to make sure her family was safe and protected. It was a sacrifice her entire pack was willing to make in order to help their sister clan, especially since the two Alphas were brothers and the Moonfires were loyal to their Alpha and his wishes. That was what being a pack was all about, and the Moonfires, though not her blood family, felt like a second family to Leah, and she wouldn’t have traded any of them for anything.
After a few minutes of lingering in bed, she slipped her legs over the side and let them touch the warm, fuzzy carpet of her new bedroom. Once she had pushed herself into a standing position and did a quick stretch, she crossed the room to look out the window. After turning around and catching a glimpse of the time blazing on her alarm clock, she called out to her parents in alarm, wondering why on earth they had let her sleep so long. She wasn’t used to sleeping in so late, and so it was strange that she had done it. Perhaps it was because of the whole jet lag thing, since it hadn’t completely worn off just yet, and that was what she was going to blame it on to make herself feel better for almost sleeping away her entire day. After shaking off the shock of sleeping in, she went back to her bed and made it up quickly, pulling the pretty silk sheets together and fluffing up her pillows neatly. When she was satisfied, she stepped over to her wardrobe and pulled out some clothes to change into, not wanting to stay in her pajamas for the remainder of the day. After brushing through her long, dark hair, she stepped into her slippers and made her way through the house until she reached the kitchen, where her mother was preparing a late lunch. Smiling, she went and placed a gentle kiss on the woman’s cheek and then reached over her to grab a plate, pleasantly surprised that there was actually something in her plate since her older brother usually beat her to the kitchen and sometimes ate her food as well as his own. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case this time and Leah strongly suspected that her mother had protected the plate from the hover-vac.
When she finished her lunch -a delicious bowl of chicken noodle soup and a grilled cheese sandwich- Leah took her plates to the dishwasher, stuck them inside and glanced at the clock on the wall. That was when she remembered that she was supposed to be meeting her cousin, Desmond, and she quickly tore into her room to dig out some shoes before saying a quick goodbye to her mother and rushing out the door. She was still not completely familiar with the area since they hadn’t been there even a full day yet, but she figured that the wolf inside her would be able to find Desmond’s scent and follow it to the Asguard Ruins, where they’d arranged to meet up. Getting there would have been faster if she had been in her wolf form, but she wasn’t in the mood to transform and really didn’t want to risk getting seen by any random humans either. That was, after all, how the Starshadows had apparently been found and attacked, and she was not going to let that happen to them – or her own pack –again. The safety of their kind was suddenly at risk, and Leah wanted to make sure that no other innocent lives were lost because of something that they couldn’t help or escape, something they had been born with.
As she walked, trees flew past and the wind blew her long hair back behind her head, making her cheeks sting with cold in the places that the wind made contact with. You would think that having the spirit of a wolf inside you would make you immune to the cold, since it had never seemed to be much of a problem back in Paris, but then she remembered that Romania was a lot colder than Paris. At this, she grumbled and hugged her fur-lined sweater closer to her as she continued on her way. Once the ruins were in sight, she sprinted towards them, hoping that Desmond wasn’t already there. As she got closer, she saw that he was and she sighed, preparing herself for the possibility of a lecture. “Hey, cousin! Sorry if I’m late…new location means a harder time finding places,”
